About the mountain

AbalconyabovetheMalabar.

Palakkayam Thattu sits quietly in Kannur — far from the postcard backwaters and busy beaches. We tell its story in mist, in trails, in the kindness of the tribal families who call this valley home.

The story

Carvedbyclouds,keptbypeople.

Long before tourism arrived, Palakkayam was simply a quiet slope above the Karuvanchal valley — known to the tribal families of the area, to hunters of wild honey and to herds of cattle that climbed up in summer to graze on cooler grass.

Today, the same plateau — Palakkayam Thattu, literally the flat top of Palakkayam — has become Kannur's second-highest viewpoint and one of Kerala's most loved off-beat escapes. The DTPC adventure park runs ziplines and tents up here, while local communities lead treks, cook meals and keep the trails clean.

Our promise is small but firm: leave it greener than we found it, and let the mountain do most of the talking.

The Western Ghats here change personalities every season. Pick the version you'd like to meet first — there's no wrong answer.

Oct – Feb

Best season

Crisp winters, breezy days, mist rolling in by afternoon. Clearest sunrise views and most-loved camping window.

Jun – Sep

Monsoon magic

Greenest version of the hill — waterfalls awake, trails slick. Activities may pause; photographers love it.

Mar – May

Quiet summer

Warmer days, fewer crowds. Great for sunrise treks before 9am and lazy evenings on the meadow.
